“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.” – Jan Schakowsky
The number of people lacking adequate housing around the world is close to 2 billion, and of those hundreds of millions of people are dealing with homelessness. Each year the holiday season represents the perfect time to help those who are less privileged and in need. Over 170,000 families and individuals in the UK alone are destitute at the moment. Thankfully, there are many people showing care and compassion for their needs at Christmas time.
Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn released a video message for Christmas, thanking all the people who are helping the homeless. Corbyn’s message comes in the light of the alarming statistics issued by Crisis, a charity that conducted a study about homelessness in the UK. According to their research, destitution is at an all-time high and so the need for help and assistance is greater than ever.
In his message, Corbyn referred to the gospel, comparing the people who help refugees and the poor as Good Samaritans. He stated that their compassion goes a long way towards making Christmas a joyous occasion. Furthermore, Corbyn emphasizes the role played by people working in different capacities to make lives better for the people who are going through a tough time. He also paid tribute to people collecting food and raising money for the needy. These are the people who are working towards creating a just society that caters to the needs of every citizen.
At Sheltering Grace, we share the same sentiments about people working towards helping the poor and homeless, especially new and would-be mothers without a home. We believe any initiative for helping the homeless deserves our encouragement and appreciation. Feel free to do your part by supporting our cause.
Sheltering Grace Ministry, Ltd. is a 501(c)3 Ltd. non-profit ministry. We resolve the initial crisis of homelessness by providing a safe place to live during pregnancy and by providing mothers with the tools they need to improve decision-making, to enhance employment options, and increase family income, to act responsibly as the head of their household, and to develop the self-reliance to progress to permanent independent living. Please join us in renewing and rebuilding the lives of these brave women – #Be1of5000.
