“It’s not about giving back if you’re successful or a celebrity or how much money you have: it’s about your responsibility as an adult to help others.” – Trisha Yearwood
Everyone who helps someone in need is a hero. Having said that, some heroes are more famous than others. And when celebrities help others they make bigger news, even inspiring more people to do their part. Such was the case when Floyd Mayweather handed a thousand dollars to a homeless man just like that.
The famous boxer, named the world’s highest-paid sports star several times, showed his caring side as part of a charity campaign. After leaving a club that he owned, he spotted a homeless man wrapped in a blanket in a wheelchair. He pulled over in his car and said he would get into his bag and give back, handing the man a wad of notes. Moved by the gesture, the homeless man tried to give his benefactor a hug, but settled for a fist bump.
41-year-old Mayweather shot the entire episode on his camera and posted it to Instagram, challenging other celebrities to complete the ‘#s4fe’ challenge. “It’s about giving back to American citizens,” he said.
At Sheltering Grace, we firmly believe in the power of what one person can do. And when that person can influence others, the affect of their good deeds is multiplied. This small anecdote is a powerful reminder of how people of means can spread happiness around them. From star-studded episodes like this to unheard stories of “common folk” helping others without recognition, we encourage and pray for people on both the giving and receiving end. You, too, can make a difference and help our cause of helping homeless women and children.
Sheltering Grace Ministry, Ltd. is a 501(c)3 Ltd. non-profit ministry. We resolve the initial crisis of homelessness by providing a safe place to live during pregnancy and by providing mothers with the tools they need to improve decision-making, to enhance employment options, and increase family income, to act responsibly as the head of their household, and to develop the self-reliance to progress to permanent independent living. Please join us in renewing and rebuilding the lives of these brave women – #Be1of5000.
