“The key to selfless giving is that you feel good when you do it and you feel good afterwards.” – Frederick Lindemann
Kids surprise us often in ways we can’t even imagine. We are used to children asking for specific gifts and negotiating allowances. But often they also show us the better side of humanity through their kindness and selfless acts. During the holiday season, we get to see many such examples, where children, instead of receiving, focus more on giving. These are heartwarming stories which give us a reason to do our little part in making the world a better place.
Here is one such story of a 9-year-old boy from Ohio, Mikah Frye, who decided to give up his Christmas gift to buy blankets to keep the homeless warm during the cold winter. His effort and kindness didn’t go waste and he was in for a surprise, too! Read more about his story below.

9-year-old boy gives up his Xbox to buy blankets for homeless—then Microsoft finds out

Kids are capable of more than we give them credit for. When the holiday season rolls around, adults shower kids with gifts, but it’s rare for parents to ask the kids how they can give to others. As a result, youngsters are often unaware of the needs of those less fortunate than themselves.
Nine-year-old Mikah Frye is the exception aiming to change the rule. At such a tender age, he’s experienced enough hardship to open his eyes to some of the realities around him. Without any prompting, Mikah wondered what he could do to make a difference in the lives of people in need.
Mikah Frye was living in a shelter with his parents just a few years ago. As Christmas drew near, he wondered how he could help those who were in need.
Sheltering Grace Ministry, Ltd. is a 501(c)3 non-profit ministry headquartered in Marietta, GA. We resolve the initial crisis of homelessness by providing a safe place to live during pregnancy and by providing mothers with the tools they need to improve decision-making, to enhance employment options, and increase family income, to act responsibly as the head of their household, and to develop the self-reliance to progress to permanent independent living. Please join us in renewing and rebuilding the lives of these brave women – #Be1of5000.
